RIP Chadwick

avengers infinity war 9

Just when we thought 2020 couldn't get any worse, it did.

On Saturday the 29th of August, most of us woke up to the news that Chadwick Boseman had passed on. I first saw the news in a WhatsApp group I'm in and I honestly thought it was just a sick joke. I went online and the story was all over.

When I tell y'all that my heart sank right there. I couldn't even control my tears in that moment. Our beloved King T'Challa is no more.

Chadwick's death has honestly touched a lot of people because he was the one that brought Black Panther, the iconic movie, to life. Black Panther was a movie watched and enjoyed by many not only fans of the MCU or superhero movies. Everyone loved this movie and Chadwick was right there at the forefront. Some didn't even know his real name, simply referred to him as Black Panther.

Black Panther is one of (if not the only) black superhero that most people know and even if they bring in a new actor to play the role, they will never be Chadwick Boseman.

They will never be the Black Panther whose smile melted many people's hearts. They will never be the Black Panther whose accent a lot of us made fun of. And they will never be the Black Panther who froze in front of Nakia (who could forget that scene?)

I know for a fact that the coming generation will watch the legendary Black Panther but they will never understand the pain we felt when we lost the man behind the character.

As much as the cancer claimed his life, he never let it rule him. He recorded so many movies while battling cancer and always had that beautiful smile on his face. He went out a winner.

It's such a cliche of a statement when someone dies to say "give people their flowers while they're still alive" but 2020 has taught me to take it more seriously. With Covid-19, police brutality and pre-existing problems, people seem to be dying now more than ever.

To give people their flowers while they're still alive does not mean to give someone literal flowers (although you still can) but it just means to celebrate people while you're both still alive. Check up on people. Tell your friends you love them and are proud of them. Make people smile. You don't want someone to die and you're left with "I wish I had told them this sooner." Tell them now.

Above it all, don't forget to seek God. It's easy to feel defeated and scared in times like these but God offers rest for our souls and assurance of His kingdom to His followers.

Rest in peace Chadwick 'Black Panther' Boseman
